Steel Frames WA

What is FrameCAD and Why We Use It

At Steel Frames WA, we use FrameCAD to design and manufacture precision light gauge steel frames. It is a fully integrated system that lets us design walls, trusses and floor systems on screen and then send the files straight to our roll forming machinery. The result is steel framing that is cut, punched, labelled and ready to install with accuracy and consistency.

In simple terms, FrameCAD means we can take your approved plans, engineer them correctly and produce your framing quickly and efficiently, all in-house. It also means fewer delays, tighter tolerances and a smoother build experience for everyone on site.

This system is well suited to homes, multi residential projects, tiny homes, modular builds and commercial structures where accuracy, speed and quality are essential.

Why FrameCAD matters for your project

Faster turnaround

Design, engineering and manufacturing sit in one workflow. That means we can move from plans to production much faster and keep your project moving. Our team handles all detailing and engineering checks before fabrication, which helps avoid hold ups and rework on site.

Built with precision

The FrameCAD process forms each section of steel exactly to spec, including pre-punched service holes and labelled components. Everything fits as intended, making installation quicker and reducing on-site cutting or adjustments.

Confidence in quality

Because everything is modelled and produced from one source, there is full traceability through the build. Every panel and member can be checked against the model, which supports inspections, certification and peace of mind.

Proven for Australian conditions

FrameCAD designs are checked to relevant Australian standards, including AS/NZS 4600 for cold-formed steel framing. In WA, we also design for local wind regions, including coastal and cyclonic zones. This ensures your build meets structural and compliance requirements from day one.

Designed for modern construction

Prefabrication, modular building, transportable units and tiny home construction benefit from consistent manufacturing and panelised delivery. With FrameCAD, we can produce walls, floors and roof systems ready for assembly, helping reduce labour and time on site.

Our FrameCAD process

Step 1. Design and loads

We confirm building type, site requirements, wind category and loads. This sets the engineering rules for your frame.

Step 2. 3D modelling and panel layout

We model your walls, floors and trusses. Panels are sized for transport, craning and installation. Service holes and openings are set in the digital model.

Step 3. Engineering checks

The software runs structural checks, including stud sizes, spacing, bracing and screw patterns. This reduces errors before production starts.

Step 4. Documentation and labelling

Clear assembly drawings and part lists are created. Each component receives a unique label that matches the plans, so installation is straightforward.

Step 5. Manufacturing

Steel coil is fed into our roll forming machinery. Members are cut, punched, formed and printed with identifying labels in sequence.

Step 6. Quality checks

Components are measured and verified before full production continues, ensuring tight tolerances are maintained.

Step 7. Packing and delivery

Panels can be pre-assembled in our facility or delivered as labelled components, depending on site needs and transport. We plan deliveries to suit WA metro and regional projects.

Step 8. On-site installation

Panels are stood, fixed and braced as per the plans. Trades benefit from clean services access with pre-punched holes and precise layout.

Step 9. As-built updates

Any changes made on site are recorded so your final documentation matches what has been installed.

Why this benefits Western Australian builders

  • Suits WA wind categories and coastal conditions
  • Shorter build times and fewer delays
  • Cleaner installs for plumbing and electrical
  • Improved project certainty and compliance
  • Strong fit for modular and transportable construction across regional WA
